• Pumpkin Extravaganza
Rules and Regulations
1.The general Rules and Regulations of the Fair apply to this contest.
2.Any student (including pre-school) who resides or attends school in the Unionville-Chadds Ford District is eligible to enter.
3. Any adult 18 yrs. or older living in the school district is eligible to enter classes 2216 & 2221.
4. Largest and Most Perfect Pumpkins must be grown by the exhibitor.
5. Entries will be received at the Pumpkin Tent on Wednesday. Judging will be Thursday morning.
6. Exhibitors must register and obtain an exhibitor number.
7. The Pumpkin Tent will be CLOSED to everyone except judges and authorized Fair personnel until the Fair opens on Friday.
8. Pumpkins may not be removed until the Fair closes on Sunday afternoon.

• People’s Choice Landscape Competition
Learn about Landscaping and Horticulture’s roots in Agriculture and Agribusiness. This unique competition will showcase the knowledge and ingenuity of some of our local landscapers. With shrubs, plants, paving stones and other decorative features, each will create a distinct oasis on the fairgrounds that will demonstrate your relationship to agriculture – your yard! Personnel will be on hand to discuss technical and aesthetic information on the suitability of the plantings in their exhibit for your own yard or business. Learn what features will work in your application! Each plot at a tent entrance will be judged by the fair-goers as well as the Fair judges. Be sure to cast a vote for your favorite. • Scarecrow Building Contest - Come build a scarecrow from scratch!:
Sunday Oct 4, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Contest Categories:
• Elementary (Grades K – 5)
• Middle School (Grades 6 – 8)
• High School (Grades 9 – 12)
• Groups (families, friends or both)

Rules and Regulations
1. If an adult helps with the scarecrow construction, it must be entered under the “groups” category.
2 Clothes and straw will be provided, however,construction materials, props and accessories may be brought from home.
3. No scarecrows may be started after 2:00 pm.
4. Scarecrows must be completed by 3:00 pm when the judging begins.
5. Scarecrows will be judged on personality, creativity, and quality of construction.
6. Winners will be announced at 4:00 pm with ribbons awarded at that time.
7. Scarecrows must be removed from the fairgrounds by 5:30 pm on Sunday.
8. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in each category.
A Best of Show may be awarded to the outstanding 1st place winner or the winning group. Scarecrows must be removed from Fairgrounds by 5:30 pm Sunday or they will be donated to the Fair auction.
• Barnyard Olympics - A course to challenge all ages: Friday, October 2nd
Rules and Regulations
1. Anyone may enter.

2. Contestants may enter any or all classes one time only.
3. Contestants must register 15 minutes before the event.
4. Contestants will receive ribbons and other prizes.
5. Contests will be held in two age divisions:
a. Elementary & Middle School
b. High School & Adult
All events will be held outdoors. Check information booth for locations. Items needed for each event will be supplied.
• Rooster Crowing Contest: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
This is a vocal effect contest. No equipment of any kind can be used.
• Relay Races: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Potato Sack Race
Contestants race to line and back in a potato sack.

ScareCrow Race:

Contestants put on scare crow clothes, race to line and teammate exchanges clothes and teammate races back to start line.

Rice Race:

Contestants must take rice from a jar and put it into and empty jar at the other line, one teaspoon at a time.

Marshmallow Race

Contestants bat marshmallows back and forth.
• Egg Toss: 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Contestants begin at three feet apart and increase their distance from each other by one step after each toss. The team that achieves the greatest distance wins.

• Corn Husking: 2:30 pm
The contestant who husks the most ears of corn in allotted time wins.

• Pie Eating Contest: 3:00 pm
Must eat a piece of pie and be able to whistle when done. The contestant who whistles first wins.

• Lip Sync: Friday, October 2nd 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Unionville High School Auditorium
Divisions are Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Adult 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes will be awarded in all divisions. A Best of Show Ribbon may be awarded.
Rules and Regulations
1. No entry fee: open to all ages within the Unionvlle/Chadds Ford School District.
2. Lip Sync contestants must dress as favorite singer, or group, and Lip Sync to a song of their choice. Groups may not exceed 5 persons.
3. All contestants must bring their own music – CDs only.
4. Contestants will be allowed to perform one song no longer than 4 minutes.
5. Judging will be based on appearance, stage presence, choreography and Lip Sync accuracy.
6. Each category will be judged on a scale of 1 to 10 points with the highest possible score being 40 points.
7. The Unionville Fair Committee reserves the right to refuse unacceptable entries.
8. Registration for performers is at the fair information booth until 12 noon on Friday.
9. Contestants must report no later than 5:30 pm.
• People Who Look Like Their Pets: Saturday October 3 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m.
• The Best Dressed Pet:
Saturday October 3 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. All pets must be restrained at all times (i.e., leash, cage, bridle, etc.).
2. No pets are permitted to enter the school buildings.
3. Contestants are responsible for the handing and disposal of all animal refuse-it is your duty to remove your pet’s duty!
4. All pets must be in good health, including being up-to-date with all immunizations.
5. Each judge’s decision is final and in now way reflects the opinions or judgments of the Unionville Community Fair or its organizers.
6. All contestants must submit a completed registration form in order to guarantee contest participation. There is no fee to participate in this contest.
7. The health and well-being of your pet must not be compromised at any time (i.e., no pierced earrings, etc.)
8. First, second and third place will be awarded with a trophy or plaque.
9. All contestants and pets must remain within the boundaries of the contest location.
10. All contestants must provide water, food, treats, etc. for their pets.

• Baking Contests
The Apple Pie Contest, Hershey’s Cocoa Classic Cookie, Brownie or Bar Baking Contest, Hershey’s Classic Chocolate Cake Baking Contest and Angel Food Cake (PEQAP)
Contest are all open to any Southern Chester County Pennsylvania Resident.
Entry Day: Saturday, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Judging: Saturday, 2:00 pm.
Release of entries: Sunday after 4:30 pm.
General Rules and Regulations for all Baking Contest Exhibits:
1.Exhibitor must be a resident of Southern Chester County Pennsylvania.
2.Entries must be made from scratch by the exhibitor, one entry per person per contest.
3. Each entry must have an exhibitor tag.
4.Recipe(s) must be submitted with the entry, neatly printed or typed on one side of 8-1/2”x11” paper. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. Entrant’s name, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages. Place recipe in a plastic bag and tape to edge of the plate.
5.Refrigeration is not available at the Fair or PA Farm Show. Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe. Those entries will not be sold, auctioned or otherwise distributed for consumption after judging for food safety reasons.
6. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday at the Awards Ceremony.
7. The certified first place winner may enter the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show competition. A Certification Form issued by Unionville Community Fair and a copy of the winning recipe must accompany the winning entry to the 2010 Farm Show in Harrisburg. Winning recipes may be used in publicity releases.
8. If an individual is the certified winner at more than one event, that individual will have to choose which Fair he/she will represent and must notify the Fairs of their decision. If the Unionville Community Fair winner decides to represent another fair, the Fair will certify the next place winner as the official Farm Show entry. Winners are responsible for getting their entry to the 2010 Farm Show that will be held in January.
• 21st Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest Sponsored by Barnard’s Orchards
Rules and Regulations
1. Baking contest rules and regulations for “All Baking Contest Exhibits” apply.
2. Any age exhibitor may enter the Annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest with a pie they made.
3. All pies are to be baked from scratch including crust(s) and recipe for crust must also be included and will be judged on the following:
Overall Appearance 15 pts.
Crust: color, flavor, texture, doneness, 20 pts.
Flavor: 30 pts.
Filling: consistency, doneness, moistness and flavor, 25 pts.
Creativity: 10 pts.
Creativity is essential to a varied competition. Contest is not limited to a “traditional” t w o - c r u s t e d apple pie. Judges are looking for a variety in the fillings that must include at least 60% apples.
4. Any exhibit in poor condition may be removed or disqualified by the Fair Committee.

• Hershey’s Cocoa Classic Chocolate Cake Contest
Rules and Regulations
1. Open to any individual who is a Southern Chester County Pennsylvania resident, one entry per person.
2. Entry must be a layered, frosted chocolate cake made from “scratch”. (no mixes)
3. CAKE RECIPE: A minimum of 1/4 cup of HERSHEY’S
Contests : Baking COCOA must be used and listed as “HERSHEY’S COCOA” in the cake batter part of the recipe.
4. FROSTING/DRIZZLE: If the cake frosting/ drizzle is chocolate, HERSHEY’S COCOA must be used and listed as “HERSHEY’S COCOA” in frosting/drizzle part of the recipe.
5. If candy, chocolate, or flavored baking chips products are used, they must be HERSHEY’S, REESE’S or HEATH branded products, and listed with their brand name in the recipe. (See www.hersheys.com for complete product list)
6. Cake entry must be submitted for judging on cardboard or a disposable plate.
7. JUDGING CRITERIA:
Flavor: aroma, taste, good balance of flavorings -- 30 pts.
Texture: moist and tender crumb not soggy or dry 25 pts.
Inside Characteristics: even grain, evenly baked, free from air pockets 20 pts.
Outside Characteristics: consistent shape/size/surface, overall appeal 15 pts.
Frosting: taste, texture, even color 10 pts.
8. Recipe listing the ingredients and the preparation instructions must be submitted with the entry.

Rules and Regulations
1. Exhibitor must be a Southern Chester County PA resident from age 8 through and including 18 years ONLY, one entry per person.
2. Entry must be comprised of a plate of six(6) made-fromscratch cookies, brownies or bars, no mixes
3. COOKIE, BROWNIE OR BAR: A minimum of 1/2 cup of HERSHEY’S BAKING CHIPS (any variety) must be used and listed as “HERSHEY’S” plus the name of the specific chip variety in the cookie-brownie-bar batter part of the recipe.
4. FROSTING/DRIZZLE: If chocolate frosting or chocolate drizzle is used, HERSHEY’S COCOA must be used and listed as “HERSHEY’S COCOA” in the frosting/drizzle part of the recipe.
5. If candy, chocolate, or flavored baking chips products are used, they must be HERSHEY’S,

6. Entry must be submitted for judging on a doily set on top of a cardboard or a disposable plate.
7. JUDGING CRITERIA:

Inside Characteristics: even grain, evenly baked, free from air pockets 20 pts.
Outside Characteristics: uniformn size, shape, appearance, 15 pts.
Creativity 10 pts.
